    The 2-day Inca Trail – short version is a route designed for people with limited time to explore the flora and fauna of the area and have an extraordinary arrival at Machu Picchu. With this hike, you can experience part of the 4-day Inca Trail and have an incredible sensation as you ascend to the mountaintop and make a spectacular entrance to Machu Picchu.

    During this hike, you will get to know Wiñay Huayna, the most beautiful ruins on the way to Machu Picchu, and then continue through the Sun Gate to see the Lost City of the Incas for the first time.

    Short Itinerary

    Day 01: Cusco – km104 – Chachabamba – Wiñay Wayna – Aguas Calientes

    Pickup from your hotel and transfer to the train station. We will board the train to km 104 to start our trek. The first point we reach is Chachabamba, then Wiñay Wayna. We will continue our hike until we reach Intipunku, from where Machu Picchu can be seen. Then, we start descending to Aguas Calientes, where we will transfer to the hotel to settle in and spend the night. Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.

    Day 02: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

    Early in the morning, we will have breakfast at the hotel and take the bus that will transfer us to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Sanctuary. The journey takes 30 minutes, and we will finally arrive at Machu Picchu. Our guide will start the guided tour to provide you with a better understanding of the history and architecture of the Inca City of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon, we will board the train back, where we will pick you up from the station and transfer you to your hotel in Cusco.

    FULL TRAVEL ITINERARY

    Cusco (3,400 meters above sea level): Pickup from the hotel and transfer to Ollantaytambo, then board the train to Km.104. Our short version of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu starts at your hotel, where you will be picked up around 5:00 a.m.

    Ollantaytambo Station (2,870 meters above sea level): From the hotel, you will travel for approximately 1-1.5 hours with your guide to reach the town of Ollantaytambo. At this point, we will take the Expedition train to our starting point called KM 104 «Chachabamba.»

    Km 104 Chachabamba (2,100 meters above sea level): At the starting point, you have to show your Inca Trail permit, your original passport, and your ISIC card if you have one. This is where the Inca Trail begins, and we will start walking for 3.5 to 4 hours to Wiñay Wayna, where we will enjoy a good snack. The hike to Wiñay Wayna is a beautiful walk, where we can enjoy the incredible flora and the surrounding landscape.

    Inti Punku (2,700 meters above sea level): After lunch, we will hike an additional two hours to Intipunku, the «Sun Gate,» from where we will have excellent views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains. Here, we will have about 20 minutes to rest and admire the beautiful landscape.

    Machu Picchu (2,430 meters above sea level): Afterwards, we will transfer to the Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu.

    Aguas Calientes (2,040 meters above sea level): Later, we will take a bus to Aguas Calientes and transfer to the hotel. We will arrive there between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., where we will head to our hotel for a short rest before enjoying a delicious dinner at one of our suggested restaurants.

    Machu Picchu: On this final day, we will have breakfast at 5:00 a.m. in the hotel and then head to our bus that will take us to the Machu Picchu Citadel.

    To enter, you will also need to show your passport, entrance ticket, and ISIC card if you have one. You will then take a guided tour for about 2 hours, visiting the different ruins and temples. After the tour, you will have free time to explore the city and take all the photographs you desire.

    After enjoying the magnificent city of the Incas, you will use the bus ticket to descend to Aguas Calientes and then take the train back to Cusco via Ollantaytambo. The «Expedition» train departs at 6:30 p.m. and arrives in Ollantaytambo after 2 hours. In Ollantaytambo, a bus will be waiting to take you back to Cusco. Your journey will end around 10:30 p.m.
